Why Are Rolex So Expensive?

Author: Steve

In order for a Rolex watch to be made available for sale it has to go through a ten step manufacturing process. Each one of these stages ensures that the watch meets the highest quality standards and will withstand the rigorous testing that Rolex requires.

The first component of the watch is that it is made waterproof. Back in 1926 Rolex made the world's first waterproof watch, the Oyster model. Now they use this technology in all of their models and continue to develop it to withstand even more extreme conditions, depths and temperatures of water.

The perpetual rotor is a vital element in the Rolex. It is a mechanical device which fits inside the watch and which utilises the wearer's movements to create and transmit energy in to the mainspring. This maintains the tension in the timepiece, ensuring the continued functionality of the watch.

The movement of the watch is contained in what Rolex call the oyster case. This is formed from a single block of metal and is similar to a miniature safe as it is virtually impenetrable.

The oyster case is covered by the case back. This is screwed on to the oyster case using a special locking device to ensure that it is watertight and will not work itself loose.

The knob used to wind the watch, embossed with the Rolex crown, fits snugly on to the watch and creates a seal around itself similar to that of a submarine hatch. This prevents water and dust from entering the watch and so helps to maintain the long life of it.

All of Rolex's watches are made from only the highest quality materials. Whether that be metal or precious stone, it is guaranteed to have passed the intense testing to ensure the quality is to the standards Rolex will accept.

Before the watch is tested by Rolex for its quality levels it is sent to the COSC, where it is studied, examined and tested for 15 days and nights to check that it can receive their seal of approval. They are looking primarily to ensure the watch will maintain reliability under the most extreme of conditions.

Once COSC have approved the watch it returns to Rolex for further quality control testing. This is done at every stage of the watches manufacture and each individual component is tested along the way, as well as the finished product.

The penultimate component of the Rolex watch is the Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer. This is the self-winding movement used solely by Rolex for their watches and it takes over a year to construct each one.

Finally, Rolex carry out their own intensive testing on the watch before it is sent to be sold. This testing places the watch in extreme conditions oftemperature, depth and environment to check its mechanical excellence, as well as checking it for aesthetic discrepancies.

These elements all combine to create a watch which is to an exceptionally high standard, both in terms of the quality of its mechanisms and design levels. Only then are Rolex satisfied that it can be sold with their name on it.

Reasonable Cell Phone and Manufacturers

Author : Victor Epand

From my experience, I have found that Nokia and Motorola phones are typically the best as it relates to reception. The Nokia phones typically make better use of the battery, though it varies from model to model. I would suggest looking at the specs for any phone you are considering and look at both talk time and standby time. A phone that has 12 hours of talk time is excellent, but more phones these days have less talk time because of the graphics and additional features. 7 hours of talk time, is actually pretty good these days.

Keep in mind that if you are going to use a Bluetooth headset that Bluetooth is a huge drain on the battery and you will see your battery life shorten significantly. If you are going to use Bluetooth, I would suggest one of the Motorola headsets that is only on when you open it versus one that stays on all the time. These are much more efficient.

To get the most out of a cell phone, it is always a good idea to purchase a phone from a cellular provider. The reason for this is that the cellular providers put devices through rugged testing and only choose devices that meet strict criteria, including reception, dropped calls, etc.

Many of the manufacturers make phones for both CDMA and GSM networks. There are devices that are great on the CDMA network, but not so good on the GSM netWith the major providers, you will need to have a device from that provider. You don't have to buy a new device, but you wouldn't be able to start up service unless you had a device from that provider. So, if you purchased an unlocked GSM device on-line and then went to T-Mobile, for example, and provided them with the IMEI number of that device, they would tell you that the device was not a T-Mobile device and that you would not be able to start up service without a T-Mobile device.

If, however, you started up service with T-Mobile and got a phone at little or no charge and then purchased an unlocked GSM device on-line, you could take the SIM card from your T-Mobile phone and put it into the new device and it would work.

A couple of things to keep in mind. The major carriers all test the devices they sell extensively and only sell devices that meet very specific criteria. If you were to use a device that was not supported by the carrier, you may have issues, such as dropped calls, etc.

When you purchase your device through the carriers, with your service, the device is under warranty (typically 12 months) with the provider. You are also guaranteed that the device has been tested on the specific network, etc.

So, since it appears that you already have cell service...if it is GSM service (i.e., T-Mobile or Cingular) and you purchased a GSM phone on line, all you would have to do is put your SIM card in the device.

If you have CDMA, Verizon or Sprint, you are going to have a much harder time because CDMA does not use SIM cards - your wireless number is associated with the ESN number of the device. I believe you would have a hard time getting them to put your non-carrier phone ESN into the system.

Most providers will allow you to upgrade your phone every 24 months and at that time, you can take advantage of the same types of discounts that new customers get on devices.

How To Choose The Best New Hardware To Upgrade Your Computer

Author: Gregg Hall

The computer you bought in the store is quite nice and it will perform simple functions and allow you to access the internet. It is much better than the old days of paper and pen. Just jump on the computer punch in your data and let the computer do the rest. But is there more? Yes, there is! There are many after market additions you can put on your computer to make it so high tech that it could fly the Star Ship Enterprise, okay maybe not but it will definitely work more efficiently.

You can be basic with the extra hardware you get for your computer. There are different chips with massive amounts of storage or chips that can accelerate the speed. The first thing people like to change is the sound cards.Downloading and listening to music on the computer is great, but if you don't have a good system to listen to your favorite songs you might as well be in the car listening to AM radio.

There are also many options for the keyboard and mouse. There are some with the mouse built into the key board. These are okay if you have limited space and don't need to use the mouse a lot. You can now get a wireless key board or mouse. This allows you to sit anywhere and use your equipment without being attached to the PC. You can get a key board with many different configurations and added features. For example, a curved key board that is ergonomic to lessen the strain on your hands from long typing sessions. There are buttons that will immediately log you onto the internet and ones that will bring up the start menu for Windows. There have been advances in voice recognition that might make the key board and mouse obsolete in the future.

Then there are monitors, and there are many shapes and sizes of monitors out there today. You can find one that will fit the space that you have. There are flat monitors that can be hung on a wall to clear up desk space. There are also flat monitors on pedestals that do the same. You can get a monitor that is as big as a television; this could come in handy for downloading movies.

There are a lot of plug in devices you can buy for your PC. Now most computers and attachments use a USB port. Computers often have extra ports in the front and back to allow you to connect many different devices. One of these devices is a digital camera. Digital cameras are great, they allow you to take pictures, put them on the screen, and edit them to your liking. You can also email them directly from your computer to share with family and friends.

How to Clean a Printer

Author: James Kara

Nothing can be more annoying than black lines, faded regions or faded text when printing a document you have worked long and hard on. Doing a printer cleaning is the best way to always have a clean and readable document.

Two type of printers

Whether the printer is an Epson printer, HP printer, or a Canon printer the general procedure for cleaning is the same. If the printer happens to be a bigger printer, for items such as advertising on larger format materials, the process is a bit more exaggerated but essentially the same.

Every day printers

Cleaning an every day office type printer usually just entails a good solid wipedown. The real trick is to not damage the printer by using cleaning items that are meant for other cleaning activities. Cleaning chemicals to avoid include alcohol or more harsh cleaning agents. These chemicals can damage electrical areas and do more harm than good. Try and stay with light cleaning supplies like baby wipes or a damp non shedding towel. In either case, do not let water get into contact with the inside of the printer whether it is an Epson printer, canon printer or any other.

Cleaning the printer

The very first thing to do is unplug the printer. Make sure that all lights are out and that the plug is away from the unit.
Open the front of the printer, with a damp non-shedding cloth give a lightwipe down looking for dust build up or paper shards. If the paper has been appearing with black marks on the back, look inside the printer and wipeexcess ink away. Make sure to wipe this area again so that there is no remaining moisture.
A clean printer cartridge is also a must clean area. Remove each cartridge and gently wipe excess ink away. Be sure not to leave any fibrous material around exit ports. The paper receiver basket may need to be removed and check underneath for dust and paper shards around the legs. A proper printer cleaning also means wiping down the basket with a mild detergent. You can also use a cleaning cartridge, which helps to clean inaccessible points of printer by hand.
If the printer has not been used for some time a head cleaning will be needed. For a complete printer cleaning in this instance go to the control panel and printers. Here the unit will be able to run diagnostic programs and get the printer heads up.

Larger specialized printers

With larger printers designed for more specialized uses, including large format blue prints or advertising mock-ups printer cleaning requires a differing approach. An approved vacuum system is the most important tool to have on-site. This vacuum should be static free, so as not to damage interior components through static shock, and have a separate motor unit to be kept away from the printer unit.
Cleaning the printer is particularly needed in the winter and spring. In the winter the air is dry and dust is attracted. Be careful so as not to set off a static charge. In spring pollen can get anywhere no matter how you try. A printer cleaning makes all involved happier and healthier with less dust and pollen involved.

How to Find the Best Digital Cameras

Author: Jim Sterling

The high tech digital world of today has brought us millions of fascinating gadgets that can help make our daily lives easier and more livable. From simple items like the compact disc or the DVD to more complex products like digital cell phones and laptops, products bursting with the latest in technology surround us wherever we go. For those of us who enjoy photography, however, some of the absolute best inventions of the digital age have got to be digital cameras. With their humble beginnings, digital cameras have blossomed into an amazing product, so incredible in fact that just about anyone who enjoys taking pictures already has at least one of the hundreds of digital cameras now available. However, with so much diversity in the world of digital cameras, it can be a difficult task to figure out which one is right for you.

To figure out which digital cameras are right for you, you have to figure out a few criteria first. To begin with, you have to decide what your price range for digital cameras is. Amazingly enough, you can purchase a digital camera for less than a hundred bucks or for more than thirty thousand, the choice is up to you. Also, you should decide how many megapixels you want in a digital camera. More megapixels will allow you to take larger, clearer pictures, but the camera itself will cost a few hundred dollars more than a comparable camera with less megapixels. Finally, you need to figure out what other features you want your possible digital cameras to have. Important things to consider include whether or not your camera can take short movies, how long the battery lasts and what type of lens the camera uses.

If you are highly passionate about photography, you really need to consider one of the prosumer digital cameras or a digital SLR (DSLR). DSLRs are highly similar to their film based cousins except they are fully digital. This means that these types of digital cameras require you to look through the viewfinder instead of at the screen when you take your pictures. However, you can always change lenses and check the pictures after you have taken them, making it a highly versatile camera. On the other hand, prosumer digital cameras offer much of the same quality as a DSLR, except you are able to sight your picture through the LCD screen. Unfortunately, prosumer digital cameras do not allow you to switch out your lens.

Aside from photography lovers, the majority of the population should stick with compact and subcompact digital cameras. These cameras offer a great image quality in a body size that is usually no larger than a pack of cigarettes. Great for carrying around with you on your travels, compact cameras can certainly be taken anywhere you go, as they can easily slip into a pocket on even your tightest jeans. One drawback of these small digital cameras, however, is that they lack many of the functions and settings of the prosumer and DSLR varieties.

A Brief History Of The Radio

Author: Roberto Sedycias

It is expect that nearly every household in the United States has at least one radio. Theinvention of the radio was dependent upon two previous discoveries: the electromagnet and telegraph.

The electromagnet was discovered in 1825. This discovery opened the doors to global communication! Five years later, Joseph Henry successfully transmitted an electric current via wirewhich was stretched over a mile and which caused an electromagnet to trigger the sounding of a bell. Thus, the electric telegraph was born. One of the most recognizable names associated with the telegraph is Samuel Morse who is most notable for the series of dots (brief sound) and dashes (more sustained sound) which was used to transmit messages by alphabet code (thus known as Morse Code). Telegraph became the sole means of rapid long distance communication until 1877 and the invention of the telephone.

Batteries are interesting, aren`t they? Used by the general consumer, they are small, but powerfully packed instruments which produce power used for many cameras, alarm clocks, radios, and other devices. What makes this power production possible? In the case of the telephone and it`s early design and use, batteries produced the essential source of power for theelectromagnet.

Batteries have two ends to which one is assigned a `+` or positive, and the other a `-` or negative. When a battery operated device is switched on, the electrons which are produced by the batteries, quickly move from the negative side to the positive side of the batteries. Something was needed to interrupt this rapid flow of electrons or find the batteries totally expended in a brief time. In order to accomplish this, a wire is often inserted between the positive and negative terminals and a `load`, such as a radio, creating a small magnetic field in the wire. The electromagnetic waves which are present now, have the capability to transmit sounds (speech, music, and so on) as well as visual images undetected by sight through the air.

There are several scientists who must be mentioned as essential to the telephone as it is known to most of us. Mahlon Loomis created wireless telegraph. Guglielmo Marconi, proved the possibility of radio communication. In 1985 Marconi, transmitted and received a radio signal. Using the Morse alphabet, he sent the first wireless signal which was transmitted across the English Channel and in due time, he was able to receive the Morse letter S which began in England and reached Newfoundland which became the beginning of transatlantic radiotelegraphy (1902).

Wireless signals gained far reaching use as a means of communication for rescue work when an accident or disaster occurred at sea. In 1899 the United States Army began utilize wireless communication which originated from a lightship off Fire Island. The US Navy was about two years behind the Army in utilizing wireless telegraphy.

In 1903, President Roosevelt (Theodore) and King Edward VII communicated via this new and improving technology. The well known Robert Perry, using radiotelegraphy, conveyed the message that he had `found the Pole`.

The first AM radio entered the world of telecommunication in the early 1900`s. This device made the use of somewhat weak waves possible for communication. This was the time when the term `radio`, as we know today for radio devices, began to be used.

It is believed that in December 23, 1900, professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden was the first person to successfully transmit human voice by radio waves. By 1915, speech was first sent across the United States beginning in New York City and sent to San Francisco. Somewhat later, transmission occurred across the Atlantic Ocean from Arlington, Virginia, to Paris at the Eiffel Tower.

It is truly fascinating all the scientists and the physics theories that led to theinvention of the radio. Marconi, Alexander Popov, Oliver Lodge, Fessenden and many others, have all made important contributions to an invention that made the world so different, that most likely none of them would envision. The radio era was born.
